The long-awaited rail trail link between Beechworth and Yackandandah certainly lives up to the hype! The Murray to Mountains rail trail originally finished at the old Beechworth station, but this 27km extension sends you east of town and through farmland before a fun 4km descent into Yackandandah.
Mostly sealed gravel bike path with one short gravel road section, the trail is a safe cycling adventure between two of North East Victoria's favourite towns.
Riding to Yack and back is a 50km+ effort, so we've put together this simple ride package with an E-MTB rental and a shuttle pickup in Yack back to Beechworth so that you don't have to ride back. The E-bike and the pickup make the route enjoyable by almost everyone.
Shuttle times
During the cooler months we run this package via our 3.45pm return shuttle. The later shuttle is perfect for a lazy lunch and a wander around Yack township.
When the weather warms up it's best to ride earlier in the day, so we change the package to use the 12.45pm return shuttle. This still gives you plenty of time for an early lunch (or late breakfast!) in Yackandandah.
Where's lunch?
We've deliberately left lunch out of this package so that you can choose your own adventure. You have a bunch of choices in Yackandandah before your shuttle back to Beechworth:
- There are two great pubs: The Star Hotel and the Yackandandah Hotel.
- For a pie, head to the Beechworth Bakery (Yackandandah) or Gumtree Pies.
- For a sit down cafe meal, try Stockroom and Pantry.
Be sure to book a table if you're heading to the pubs or the cafe.
What are the E-bikes like?
You'll love them! They put a smile on your face as soon as you realise the boost of extra power that they give you. Read more about them here.
